Make your money work smarter
Making money can be hard work these days; so it's important that you invest it smartly.
Jeremy Davis from 35 Finance has some ideas on where to find the best returns.
"The stock market is invariably a good place to start. In recent months, shares have been gradually improving and in the long-term this is a situation that’s likely to continue.
"As always, some shares do better than others and we're looking more and more towards emerging markets such as China, Brazil, Russia and India which are consistently outperforming other markets.
"Market volatility is still a problem and to get round this we've been investing in Absolute Return Funds. These are hedge funds that are onshore and properly regulated, and we use them to take advantage of volatility. One we're particularly recommending at the moment is the Standard Life Global Absolute Strategies Fund.
"We're also getting involved much more with Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). These are funds which hold stocks or bonds and trade on the stock exchange much like shares. They are an attractive option by virtue of being low cost and tax efficient.
"Remember that shares should always be looked at as a long-term investment.
"Away from shares, corporate bonds are still looking strong although returns are down to around 6 to 7 per cent. As inflation reappears, possibly towards the end of 2010, these bonds will look progressively less attractive.
